Art Lessons

I have taught 3rd, 4th and 5th grade art classes in the California school system, in private schools here locally, and all age groups in private and group lessons, and in retail settings.

My basic approach to teaching art

is to take the fear out of the experience, especially if it is a first time student. I believe we all learn better if we are somewhat relaxed and enjoying the learning process.

One of my goals is for the student as well as myself to have fun in the painting, drawing and learning process.

I have never met any student that could not paint or draw.

I have met many students of all ages that believed they could not paint or draw, but those students sometime turn out to be amazing students and artists. Frequently the reason a child believes that they cannot create art, is that someone told them they couldn’t, not because they weren’t capable of it.

Private Lessons

I do not have a rigid system of steps that I always follow with each student. I try to weave my lessons around each students strengths and weaknesses and things they are interested in, and therefore, motivated to learn about.

As the student has more and more success in areas they are capable and comfortable in, the more they are prepared to step out and try new things in art and life itself. I try to lead the student by honest rewards and encouragement, not in being critical of their work and experimentation.

While it is true there are distinct disciplines in art that I am aware of, and I teach those, but they are imbedded in fun, excitement, and discovery.

Group Lessons

I apply the same basic approach in groups as I do in private lessons but I make it more flexible and verbally address options and possibilities within the exercises we do. I also encourage everyone to not only learn from me, but also from the other students around them.

As always, I try to have fun with everyone as we discover not only the secrets of painting, but also the beautiful world around us.

Art Parties at Home

We can create art, drink coffee or tea and have fun learning about both the basics of art as well as some advanced tricks of the trade. We can bring a fun classroom to you and your friends right in your own home. Call us and we will show you how much fun this can be.
